Developed for TY students by TY students and their Co-ordinator.

Well Done, Me! is a 12-week journalling programme for TY students that encourages students to take purposeful control of their personal and academic growth.

Aligned with the Transition Year Programme Statement’s emphasis on personal development, civic engagement, and self-directed learning, the journal guides students to:

  • Reflect daily on their gratitude, diet, sleep, and exercise habits, fostering wellbeing and self-awareness
  • Set and review meaningful goals, cultivating leadership, resilience, and autonomy
  • Track their learning strategies, inspiring a lifelong love of education

Through structured prompts and reflective exercises, the Well Done, Me! Journalling Programme supports students in building a portfolio of their personal growth – a key objective of Transition Year. It provides a practical, enjoyable way for students to align with the developmental indicators outlined in the Student Dimensions, from Personal Growth to Civic Engagement.

A practical tool to help support the implementation of the new TY specifications in your school.

Benefits of journalling in Transition Year:

  • PERSONAL GROWTH - The journal becomes a tool for capturing students' emotional and social development through personal reflections on gratitude, wellbeing, and self-awareness. It helps them to set goals and develop leadership, empathy, and a strong sense of identity. Students can track their development over time, making connections between their personal and academic progress.
  • BEING AN EFFECTIVE LEARNER - Students are shown how to identify effective learning strategies, build resilience, and take ownership of their academic journey. Self-directed learning and a growth mindset for lifelong success are fostered. The guided reflection helps students refine their study habits, ensuring they develop strategies that will serve them well in future educational pursuits. They document their strengths and build a portfolio of their learning journey.
  • CIVIC AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT - Students grow their understanding of their rights and responsibilities, fostering empathy and ethical decision-making. Journalling helps them to recognise their role in society and to set goals for positive impact, aligning personal values with responsible, engaged global citizenship. They reflect on community involvement, promoting diversity awareness, inclusion and ethics.
  • CAREER EXPLORATION - Students document career insights from internships and career guidance sessions, track skills, refine goals, and build a portfolio. Goalsetting boosts confidence and clarity, preparing them for future education or employment. This reflective journaling experience helps students make informed decisions about their next steps and ensures they are equipped for success in their chosen career paths.
